Talbot Street Art Fair, Indianapolis Indiana

Shown here are photographs I took at the 2nd annual Talbot Street Art Fair in the summer of 1958.

(The 46th annual Fair will be held June 14 & 15, 2003)

The art fair, when it began, was held in the alley just south of 16th Street, an extension of Talbott Street to the north.  Exhibitors were local painters, potters and artisians working with metal and glass, and it definitely had a Left Bank feel to it.  The fair is now held in four blocks of Talbott Street north of 16th Street and draws a couple hundred exhibitors with many crafts represented. Somewhere I read that it is one of the top 25 art fairs in the country.  Note the difference in the number of t's--it's always been that way; so figure.
